Grief has the power to weigh heavily on the soul, as deep as the love you’ve shared. Yet, through art, we can find healing and a way to reconnect with those we've lost.
Every year, for a brief and sacred period, I open a limited number of commissions for Missed Beyond Measure—a special series of intuitive grief paintings. Each piece is a deeply personal tribute, a bridge between this world and the next, capturing the essence of a loved one who has passed.
A grief painting is a gentle, visual way to honor and celebrate the deep bond between you and your loved one on the other side. Celebrating the enduring love that transcends the boundaries of death.
This series was born from my own grief.
The first Christmas after my son Lars crossed over in 2019 felt empty. I couldn’t bring myself to decorate our Christmas tree—it stood bare, mirroring my grieving heart.
In those hollow days, painting became my lifeline. Through it, I found a way to connect with Lars beyond the physical realm. Painting carried both my grief and my love, helping me rediscover life after loss.
This is why I create these paintings each year during Samhain—a sacred time in late October and early November when the veil between worlds is thinnest. It is a time for honoring those who have passed, and for feeling their presence more deeply.
Through this “Missed Beyond Measure, Series” I want to offer this form of healing to others who carry the weight of loss in their hearts.
The final artwork is always a surprise, yet infused with deep meaning, spiritual connection, and intuition. Below, you can view examples of past works to get a sense of the style.
💫 Regular price for a personal piece like this is €299
💫 During this period, there will be a special offer
Additionally, all proceeds will be donated to Vale Viver, a non-profit organization supporting children and families in the slums of Brazil. Lars volunteered there, and this cause was close to his heart.
By commissioning a grief painting, you not only honor your loved one, but also extend love and care to those in need.

I had a painting made in memory of my landlady, neighbor, and dear friend, Isa-Kae Meksin, who was born in 1928. We shared daily conversations for 30 years, and in the end, I became her caregiver. Despite not being related, her loss felt unusually profound, like losing a family member. I crossed paths with Mieke in an artist's chat, and I shared how Isa's passing had deeply impacted both my art practice and my life. That's when Mieke introduced me to her project, and it felt like destiny – she was the person I needed to meet.
The ordering process was a revelation. All Mieke needed was the name of the deceased, which surprised me because I had assumed I'd have to explain more about Isa. Knowing that she could derive the essence from just the name was incredibly comforting. The painting arrived swiftly, beautifully packaged. Receiving it felt like a shared experience of our loss. Somehow, Mieke's artistry managed to capture Isa in another realm, which helped soothe the pain of her absence. The painting was a tremendous source of comfort.
Having this painting in my life makes me feel like Isa is still connected to others and to this world. Although she's no longer here, her memory is cherished and thoughtfully preserved in this painting. It has allowed me to share my grief and feel less isolated in my mourning.
Mieke has a rare gift that brings great comfort in times of loss.
Thank you sincerely,

I commissioned Mieke to create a painting in memory of my late son, Jesse*. Each year, as his birth and passing anniversary approaches, I make a conscious effort to pause and reflect. When I discovered Mieke's initiative, it resonated deeply with me: supporting a good cause while obtaining something tangible for myself, almost like a special gift for his birthday. It also allowed me to tap into Mieke's unique sensitivity.
The entire process, from placing the order to receiving the painting, was seamless. Fortunately, the wait was short because I was eager to see the result and what Mieke had captured. The personal reception of the 'creation' proved to be an intensely emotional moment. The message it conveyed was remarkably profound, touching, and deeply moving. Mieke's empathetic presence during that moment was truly heartwarming. It provided me with an opportunity to share my story again, 11 years later, and all the associated emotions found a compassionate and understanding space.
The beautifully framed painting now graces my living room, placed alongside a photo of my son in a central location. During challenging moments, I can gaze upon it and contemplate its message: "Le ciel est toujours bleu" - The sky is always blue. It serves as a reminder to infuse life with celebration and embrace joy.
Thank you, Mieke, for the painting and for conveying his meaningful message.

"I had a painting created in memory of my son. It held the promise of solace, though I had no idea what to expect.
The anticipation was suspenseful, especially because I had seen paintings for others on social media. But when I received it, I was very excited and grateful.
What makes the painting even more special is that it feels uniquely mine.
The personal connection, coupled with the story Mieke shared about her inspiration, deepens my appreciation.
Thank you"

I had a painting made for my beloved daughter, Liesl, who passed away. Liesl left us on February 21st, '97, just days before her first birthday on February 26th, '97. Her first birthday turned into a celestial farewell, not a celebration.
I commissioned this painting to seek a connection with her, to find out how she's doing now, and to bring her presence closer, if only for a moment.
As for the ordering process, I only provided her name, Liesl, to Mieke. I had many questions and concerns. Would Mieke truly understand who Liesl was? I didn't want the painting to be dark, black, or gloomy, nor did I want a typical pink baby portrait. But I also trusted that you would feel Liesl's spirit and that she would appreciate it.
While waiting, I became more aware of my emotions and connected with my daughter on a deeper level. Perhaps you could call it a form of grieving and healing at the same time. The drive to Mieke's studio to pick up the painting was filled with anticipation. This painting was meant for me, and I had ordered it, so I would be the one to collect it. The first sight of the painting was pure wonder; it had become a cheerful piece of art.
What does the painting add to my life, my grieving process, and my healing? It means everything! The exclamation marks signify my amazement and joy, Liesl's wish for my contentment and happiness. She assures me that with patience and trust, everything will be alright in due time. The painting brings comfort and a smile to my face. I still stand in awe of it, discovering new messages from her. Liesl lives on as an angel by my side.
With love,
Miriam
I requested Mieke to create a painting in memory of my late father. Our unique connection wasn't always visible, but since his passing, I've deeply felt his love. Despite being a last-minute decision, the moment I placed the order marked the beginning of a healing journey, resulting in a beautiful and heartwarming experience.
Mieke's artwork offered a profoundly positive response to my sense of existence. I know now that my father understands the challenges I faced during my youth – loneliness, misunderstanding, and a lack of self-acceptance. The single rose I laid on his grave, Mieke intuitively added to the painting.
Mieke's creation, along with the opportunity to share my story and emotions, has brought immense comfort to my grieving process. I'm incredibly grateful. The painting means as much to me as having my father close by.

We commissioned a painting for Nathan, our son who passed away in 2020. The idea to remember someone in this way felt truly original.
The entire process, from placing the order to waiting for the painting and finally receiving it, was seamless. Having a pleasant conversation with Mieke when we received it was quite comforting.
We're not entirely certain whether Mieke was guided solely by her intuition or if she considered Nathan's spiritual connection, but the wolf and its surroundings perfectly embody Nathan. The painting has found a new home in New York with his brother. It serves as a visible presence without prompting questions from visitors. Unlike a photograph of Nathan, which often sparks inquiries, this painting allows his brother to feel his closeness without the need for explanations. Its size is also ideal for a small apartment.
This isn't just about healing; it's about keeping Nathan's spirit alive in a way that authentically represents him.
We sincerely appreciate it,
Marijke
I had this painting created by Mieke for the son of my sister-in-law. She was struggling to cope with life after the loss of her husband (my brother). It was a small source of solace for him, the only child who lost both parents in a short span.
The ordering process and everything else went smoothly.
Gifting this painting also brought solace to me because it encouraged my nephew to seek psychological support, which is proving to be very effective now.
I also found many familiar elements and messages in this painting.
Thank you once again for this.
